Chapter Fourteen
There were worse places to be imprisoned in. Tanya knew that on a practical level although not many came to mind, but the bathroom was at least a little more private than being tied to a chair in public where the men were. A twin mattress had been provided for her and they had managed to hook up the water in the room that allowed her access to the sink and the toilet.
While these were small luxuriesâthe kind she usually took for grantedâshe was relieved that her captors had provided a way to preserve at least some of her dignity. The alternative truly didnât bear thinking about.
They'd even untied her on the assumption that the lock on the door was enough to prevent her from escapingâa serious underestimation they would hopefully soon regret. She smirked when she considered that their mistake could have been avoided if they had kept the one man alive who had personally experienced what she was capable of.
Still, she had no phone or smartwatch on her to reach Bobby or that would enable Vickie and Desk to track her location. She could hear them talking outside, and while most of the words were muffled beyond recognition, the tone was easily understood. They were in trouble and they didn't know what to do about it.
It seemed that was what happened when people knew Taylor was coming for them. It was an odd thing to be on the opposite end of the situation but it was instructiveânot only to hear them planning but also to be away from where her team was so she had to guess what the crazy giant would do next.
She hadnât been there long but already had some idea about their patterns, their situation, and what they were most likely to do at what point in the day. This meant that when more motorcycles pulled up outside, it broke the tentative pattern sheâd established and drew her to perch on the narrow sill of the tiny window so she could peer out.
From what she could tell, the bikers had received reinforcements. Given that the two factions sheâd identified were already turning on one another, she could only question whether having more people mixed in the current mess would be better or worse.
Still, the routine seemed unaltered. From the shadows outside, it looked like the morning was almost at its end, which meant someone had been sent out to purchase lunch. If what she could see of the packages being brought up was any indication, it included a good supply of beer to celebrate the newcomers.
If there was ever a time to break out, it would be now. She drew a deep breath, steadied herself, and peeked out through a narrow crack in the door. Not that she could see much. Loganâsheâd picked up the name of the leader from their conversationsâhad ordered her to be confined in the bathroom to keep her away from the men, but she wouldnât make the mistake of assuming it had been out of the goodness of his heart.
